Allan Silber is founder, Chairman and CEO of Counsel Corporation (TSX: CXS), a financial services company and publicly traded merchant bank. Counsel has built, operated and exited numerous businesses including Statlander Drugs, which sold for over $480M, American Home Patient, which sold for over $400M, Counsel REIT, which became Rio Can REIT, one of Canada’s largest REITs, and Counsel Trust, with $2B under management at the time of sale. Counsel has also invested in technology roll ups principally in telecom and has created multiple successful private equity funds, including the Knights Bridge Funds whose investments include Polaroid and other leading brands. One of Counsel’s current operating businesses, Street Financial, is the third largest non-bank owned mortgage lenders in Canada.
