Yaletown Venture Partners Plans Further Investment in Northwest
November 3, 2011, Portland, OR - Yaletown Venture Partners announced today at the Venture Northwest Conference in Portland Oregon, that one of its founding partners, Kirk Washington, has established a full-time office in Seattle to capitalize on the strong investment opportunities in the cleantech sector in the Northwest.
“Our firm’s strategy is to have a strong presence in the regions where we invest,” said Washington. “Our announcement today demonstrates our commitment to the Northwest region where we see strong deal flow and opportunities to partner with industry. With over $100 million in investment capital, we are actively seeking investments in the Northwest and Western Canada.”
Yaletown already has a strong presence in the Northwest with investments in EnerG2, a clean energy storage company, based in Seattle with operations in Oregon; Mixpo, a video advertising technology provider in Seattle with a product development team in Victoria, BC; and Thetus, an enterprise software company based in Portland.
While Kirk Washington will be based in Seattle and lead cleantech investments in the Northwest, he will continue to work on cleantech deals in all regions where Yaletown has a focus and serve on the boards of CoolEdge Lighting, Endurance Wind Power, EnerG2, LaCima and Microstaq. Washington has over 25 years of technical, operational, and investment experience in energy technologies. Kirk joined Yaletown in 2002 after 13 years with fuel cell company, Ballard Power Systems, where he directed numerous activities including research & development, operations, corporate administration, and special projects. He previously managed engineering teams and major projects at MacDonald Dettwiler in Vancouver. Kirk attended San Jose State University and holds 10 patents related to his work in clean energy technology.
