Kirk Washington joined Yaletown in 2002 as a co-founder and serves as General Partner. Kirk brings over 25 years of technical, operational, and transaction experience in advanced manufacturing and sustainable technologies to Yaletown and its portfolio companies.  Prior to Yaletown, Kirk spent 13 years at TSX- and NASDAQ-listed fuel cell pioneer, Ballard Power Systems. In his most recent role as Director of Corporate Development he analyzed target companies for strategic transactions, negotiated intellectual property licenses, formed joint development agreements and conducted post-merger integrations. In early roles at Ballard, Kirk directed research & development, operations and corporate administration.  Kirk is a former member of the investment committee of Chrysalix Energy LP, a clean-energy venture capital fund.  He previously managed engineering teams and major projects at MacDonald Dettwiler in Vancouver, and several disk drive companies in Silicon Valley and Canada.  Kirk attended San Jose State University and holds 11 patents related to his work in clean energy technology. Kirk serves on the advisory board of the University of Washington’s Center for Commercialization W Fund, which invests in startups originated at the university and other Washington research institutions. Kirk is also a director of the Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies (BEST) Center which supports commercialization of technology from Oregon Universities.
